I know how you guys feel, I met my wife through an internet dating site, alarm bells should have rang when she said she loved me on the first visit, after she had been in the U.K. a year she then says we have to send Momma money, Big mistake because then she keeps asking for more, she only wants to be friends with Filipina's and will always talk visayan or tagalog to them, when we visit the Philippines a few years ago they talked in visayan all day & ignored me, we where doing & paying for all the shopping & days out, now I have stopped sending money & gifts I don't get sex, but she wont go back home, so I am unable to meet another lady

I've been married to a Filipina for 12 years here in Canada. I agree it's a bad idea to bring them to the west in fact it's a very big mistake. One other thing I've discovered over the years. Filipinos are only interested in Filipinos. Foreigners are just window dressing to them. I plan to leave my Filipina wife soon but the way I'll do it is to give her a wack of cash and send her back home. Then I'm free. Lesson learned.

It's really sad to read about all your stories and all your misfortunes marrying a Filipina, especially because I am a Filipina. It's true, some Filipinas marry foreigners because of the money or the green card. That's why I don't recommend dating websites... not at all. Not all Filipinas are like that, though. So if your'e looking for the real deal, then you shouldn't look in bars or the internet.

To provide a little background about how I met my husband: we met while I was travelling.. in an airport to be exact. It was a simple conversation between two travellers. Then we continued our conversation over Whatsapp. We started off as friends. I've had a couple of foreign suitors before him, and I did try to get to know them. but as soon as they started talking dirty, I just couldn't bear it and ran off. if a Filipina agrees to have sex with you on your first week dating, that's a REALLY BAD SIGN. Run away! If she's easy-to-get she's probably not worth it.

To make the long story short, he became my first boyfriend (at the age 28). After 2 years, he proposed to me and we got married. To be honest, I was scared at first because I've heard and read too many stories about Filipina women who married foreigners and ended up being abused. i had to do background check on him and get to know his family. Turns out, they're really good people. He also took the time and effort in knowing my family and friends. I guess that's his way of making sure I am what I say I am.

So, my advice is get to know the family and friends. You should also consider cultural differences. Filipinos are very "family-centered". So if you marry a Filipina, you're also marrying her whole family. You're lucky if she comes from an honorable family with strong values, they will treat you as a son and brother. But if you end up like Dan, her family will treat you like an ATM. As for the part that says "you shouldn't bring your Filipina wife abroad"; it really depends on her upbringing and the values she grew up into. Like I said, don't go to places like the Hooters if you're looking for the real deal.

Spot on John. Been with my wife 14 years and jealousy and the financial considerations that she gives to extended family back in the Philippines is staggering. Otherwise she has been a loyal and faithful mate but due to where we live she doesn't have that much contact with other Pinays so i have been lucky that way. Be very wary gentlemen....

Greetings Joseph, I appreciate you sharing your story. I hope all works out for you. One problem that happens with westernized Pinays is they tend to get ahead of themselves, like a "look at me, I made it" type of vibe. You may want to consider going full-on dominant because Pinays are usually submissive and will run wild until put in check. She may be testing you whether consciously or subconsciously to see how dominant you'll be or become in the relationship. Cheers.

Dan,
Thank you for the article. Unfortunately I broke a couple of your rules with my current wife of 9 months now. Our first date conversation had marriage brought up by her a few times. I was blown away from this peculiar conversation. It right away made me se that I was potentially in for a ride. I shrugged it off and tried to continue to date her. I love you came out in a week or 2 and still she mentioned about getting married. I resisted and almost cut the chord because of these early traits in her personality. her consistency even made me lash out at her to tell her to give me a year to decide. She then threatened to leave the State and find another job. Well, that scared me into submission. We were married after 3 months of dating. The jealousy was astronomical! She constantly brought up my old girl friends, looked up my pat wives. I am just now trying to get use to this problem. After 9 months of marriage, she is even jealous when I cut my Mothers grass for her. She calls me a Mommas boy just because I cut her f -grass! So, I really feel this relationship is going down the tubes. She is waiting on her green card now that I married her. When she gets it, I fear she will leave and try to find another life.
Her
Good parts, I made her sign a prenup, she is clean, no kids here in the states. She is 50 I'm 57 so we wont have any kids.
She is so loving and kind to me one day then completely turns her back on me the next day. Are they quick to forgive?
I go into a panic attack sometimes because I feel I married her because I love her, but she married me for a green card. Is she in this for life? Will she stick this out? Im willing to do anything I can possibly do in my power to hang onto her. But, sometimes just recently, I feel like this is a matter of time before this thing collapses.
Any words of wisdom? Any suggestions?
Thank you,

I found my girl in Canada. She didn't want to go home to the Philippines or have anything to do with her country. I insisted and soon we bought property. Since 2004 we have been going down to stay and upgrade our home. Here's where the problem comes in, and yet I'm lucky it's just one problem to deal with. I'm talking about her brother and his kids, they, like many others are completely racist against foreigners, don't want them in their country, I can relate to that, but times are changing now. I totally agree with the comments above as that shortens my story here. Anyways her brother, although taking care of my house (while I'm working my ass off here in Canada,) can't do anything that requires a normal person who cares about the daily choirs and maintenance. He's lazy, arrogant, and full of excuses. Educated, yet won't speak English. Sixty going on thirteen. Fucin cellphone and bike is the only thing precious in life. Has to update constantly. I've offered this goof a life and all I ask in return is respect. Can't close the door when urinating. Can't help or assist in any way. Absolute fruitcake, and if that was the case at least the kitchen would be clean. I've handled him since 2005 but this previous year I can't continue. I have lots of philipino friends. When with him, I get the back of the head, I would warn guys that take charge from the beginning, keep your money close and watch out for fast taking. Usually indications for foul play

Be aware, very aware, marry a filipina and you will be broke for life period. Trust me on this, I married one. They don't use their own money they make for anything other than family back home. The well being of family back home is more of a priority than the family they make abroad. Once they are in North America they join the filipino community and stick with them, they don't really associate with others unless they really have to. Their sole purpose of being in North America is to take care of their family back home, send all their money back home, and one day retire and go live back home. And yes, they are extremely jealous and you can kiss your friends goodbye. I am speaking of experience gentlemen. Don't do it!
